Job Description :
The Emirates College for Advanced Education seeks a Manager, Library Services. The Manager reports to Head Learning and Information Management (LIM) to ensure the provision of quality library resources and services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of library staff, operations and facilities in order to provide the smooth delivery of library services. This position will lead in the ongoing development of a service driven culture within a continuous learning environment. The position works with librarians as area specialists to support the development and delivery of library resources and services to the ECAE community.
Major Responsibilities :
• Manages library support staff; take the lead in recruitment, training and development and evaluation
• Assists team members with resolution of problems and serve as a resource person to team members and others
• Provides proactive recommendations and participates in solutions for procedural, resource and systems improvements, technical applications, staffing, in a collegial environment, in order to continually provide exceptional service, control costs and develop high employee satisfaction.
• Manages library facilities and advises Head LIM on outstanding issues.
• Under the direction of Head LIM, assists with preparation of and the management of the annual budget, authorizes purchase requisitions within expenditure guidelines; monitors expenditures.
• Assists Head LIM to establish library goals, strategic directions and priorities in consultation with librarians and staff, develops program planning to achieve goals, ensures library projects are completed on time and within budget
• Assists Head LIM to develop standards, outcome measures and performance indicators for library services.
• Monitors library services, compiles and reviews statistics and prepares reports.
• Assists Head LIM to promote the library’s resources and services.
• Promotes a culture of collaboration, learning and assessment throughout the library.
• Works cooperatively across functional units within the broader ECAE community.
• Serves on LIM and College committees as required.
Relationships:
The Manager, Library Services collaborates with other librarians and:
• Head Learning and Information Management (LIM).
• Coordinators of the Curriculum Resource Centre, Center for Blended/Distance Learning and the Center for Professional Learning (CPL).
• Deans, program heads and curriculum subject leaders.
Demonstrated experience in:
• Effective management of staff
• Financial management
• Analytical ability
• Program planning and administration
• Problem solving and conflict resolution
• Project management
• Strong commitment to library and student services
• Knowledge of emerging trends in academic libraries, and applications of information technologies
• Well-versed in integrated library systems, especially desirable is experience with Innovative Interfaces (III) Opec and Millennium .
• Collaborative management style
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Required Qualifications:
• Master of Library Sciences from an accredited university
• Minimum three years of progressive management and supervisory experience in a post secondary library setting.
• Additional three years experience in an academic environment
• Arabic language skills will be a definite plus
